News for October 2009

Congratulations to Associate Professor Rufus Isaacs, a 2009 recipient of the MSU Extension Outstanding Specialist award. Rufus was cited for his leadership in integration of biological controls and novel chemicals to assist Michigan’s small fruit growers. Rufus directs his team in providing regular IPM scouting reports, targeted in-season articles and other IPM reference resources for growers. His research program has garnered more than $2.6 million in grants that include farmer cooperators and on-farm demonstrations.

We also congratulate Beth Bishop, Enviro-weather Coordinator, who was recognized as an outstanding academic specialist by the Michigan Association of Extension Specialists. Beth has a highly respected record of service to the vegetable industry as a research associate with Dr. Ed Grafius. Over a year ago, she changed appointments to begin working with Enviro-weather in coordinating development of web-based tools that harness MSU’s climatology and IPM expertise for use by farm and natural resource managers.
