The Entomology Department honored one of its former chairs, Dr. Mark Scriber, on September 10 at the MSU Kellogg Center. Scriber served as chair 1987-1997 and is retiring this fall. His international reputation derives from his passion for studying, documenting and publishing how the genetics, morphology, physiology and behavior of the various North American lineages of swallowtail butterflies have diverged in the face of shifts in host plants, geography and climate. Many good stories were shared by Mark’s former students and children about collecting butterflies with him, while faculty noted his administrative successes.

Davis was selected through a national search and with great support from the campus community. She previously served the college as chair of the Natural and Physical Sciences Department and professor of biology. (March 2010) Maria Davis.

Entomology alumni Susan Sylvester was honored with the 2009 College of Natural Sciences' Outstanding Alumni Award. Ms Sylvester received her Master's Degree in 1978 under the direction of Dr. Richard Merritt, who also nominated her for this award.
